Pentre Flooding. Covid - 19.

This year has been one we will not forget in a hurry. To begin with Pentre was hit by storm Dennis. The devastation that enveloped our community was heart breaking. Community members had their lives turned upside down as storm Dennis thrashed his way through the country and left our village with streets full of sewage and homes that were unliveable. Our centre opened its doors to do all we could to support our community through this difficult time.

As we started the mass clean up operation and people began to try and piece their lives back together we were hit by another blow, Covid - 19, this disease is terrorising the world at the moment bringing heartbreak and despair to many. Not only do we have community members who are at this moment living in their upstairs rooms due to flooding, they are now on lockdown in homes that are no more than building sites. We are following the Governments’ advice to try and stop the spread of the disease and we are all working together to support each other and protect our NHS.

With this said, the centre is having to change the way we operate. We are still doing all we can safely to protect our staff and community. We are delivering mindfulness bags and supplies to the most vulnerable in our community and trying to coordinate a more Rhondda response working with our third sector partners. We will always do what we can to help, support and look after those that need us most. We have been extremely lucky that the Moondance Foundation has helped us through this very difficult time and we are forever grateful to them for their continued support, they have listened and responded to our calls for help, we can not thank them enough. The local supermarkets, Asda, Karen our community champion and everyone who has provided support so far has been outstanding and we send them all a big community thank you. I must not forget my our team at the centre, through this all they have been phenomenal, working long hours and going that extra mile to provide a different, but much needed service. They are truly amazing. Canolfan Pentre is what it is today because each and every volunteer and member of staff put a little piece of their heart into everything they do. I thank them. They are superstars. They are Canolfan Pentre.
