We kicked off Christmas 2017 in style with a visit from BBC One, Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
Our Volunteers cooked up a storm after Mel and Sue surprised them as they planned the centre Christmas party, they had the shock of their lives when Mel and Sue burst in offering to make Buffy, Johnny, Lynne, Mary and Christine a brew! The gang had been working with the BBC for some time believing they were filming a documentary on volunteering, they had no idea what was in store for them or who was hiding in the pop up kitchen that had been erected in the local park. When the gang was taken to the park for a special surprise they were amazed to find a glass like marquee and a pop up kitchen hidden inside a great white marquee.
Stepping inside they found Mary Berry waiting for them and the surprises just kept coming!
Mel and Sue sneakily went around the centre users and volunteers delivering invitations to the party they had planned and refused to tell us who they had invited, Marion and Eira were brought in to make crackers and help decorate, while Jamie and Buffy hung baubles, decorated trees and made the table decorations. Mel and Sue confiscated the centre keys and set about replacing our old kitchen and shower/office with the help of some pretty amazing volunteers.
The party was fantastic with reindeers, Santa and prize bingo to add to the celebrations. Everyone enjoyed and we can't thank the Volunteers who worked on the centre, donated kitchen appliances and made our storage cupboards enough, the new office is the icing on the Christmas cake.
Mel, Sue and Mary really did make our Christmas wishes come true.
